Walter's Whistler
Among many of the beloved trails in Bentonville's Slaughter Pen, Walter's Whistler is one of my personal favorites. Whether you're shredding solo, bringing your girlfriend along who is just learning like I did, or planning a family day this trail has something to offer for riders of all ages and skill levels. After a short ride up Highway to Heaven... (or walk, I'm built for DH) turn right and you'll be at the downhill tech hub. Tech Gnar, a black diamond, is to the right. Rim trail, a blue, is to the left. Walter's Whistler, a green trail, is center.
Starting down the trail you'll come to the first turn which is a berm to the left and then a berm to the right. Up next comes a couple series of jumps, pumps, or rollers... depending on your riding style, skill level, and speed. I chose to pump them, and My girlfriend rolled over them without incident. After those there is one more berm to the right and for lack of a better term then it's all downhill from there. Pretty smooth trail to the bottom where you hit a small bridge that ends on the trail that leads back to Highway to Heaven. It's a pretty fun trail with decent flow and I rode it multiple times and the only thing I got sick of as the WALK back to the top. Now if you are looking for an extra workout or have an Ebike (in which case I envy you) you can take the Cry Baby trail to the hub which is a slightly technical uphill only trail. Keep the rubber side down, keep the bars off the ground, and have a good ride.
